A Letter From Colette & RMA

Welcome to Alyeska, and the Yukon —

As brought to you by Rainbow Mountain Adventure Travel…

And please excuse the limitations of ink on paper, for this great land —which is how the name Alyeska translates— has a spirit that somehow cannot be captured in a travel brochure.

Our self-guided tours take you deep into frontier Alaska and the Yukon Territory. We arrange your itinerary so that local Alaskan businesses take care of every detail in your tour package. They know Alyeska like their own back yard, because it is. They’ll share their first hand knowledge and infatuation for this unique corner of the world, taking you well beyond the “been there, done that, got the T-shirt,” sights. Their Alaskan hospitality will provide the intangible human touch; your travel day will not only be about the stunning landscape and wildlife you see, but an experience and relationship you will take with you, at the end of the day.

This great land isn’t just postcards, and it is very difficult to experience through a cruise line tour bus window. Rainbow Mountain Adventures strives to bring you the “real” Alaska. We offer you the freedom to make choices on the best way for you to experience living the life of the last frontier.

We use our knowledge of Alaska to provide you with an affordable, flexible tour, customized around your interests, budget and schedule. Enjoy wonderful lodging in log cabins, Alaskan lodges or special B&B’s (always with a private bath). Travel Alaskan style, using the Alaska Railroad, Alaska Marine Highway Ferry System, bush planes, small ferry and rented vehicles. Our unique Rainbow Mt. Adventures travel book is customized around your individual itinerary; this 300 page travel book will provide you with in-depth information for each day of travel. We provide a 24 hour a day service for any communication needs you may have while traveling.

On a more personal note, it is my hope that I can share my understanding for something that has been an important part of my life. I was fortunate enough to have grown up traveling throughout Alaska. In my youth my family built a log cabin 120 air miles from the nearest road (see the photo on the cover, and me, chinking logs, bottom left). In the summer of 1974 we trekked over the Chilkoot Pass, and put kayaks in at the headwaters of the Yukon River to paddle 2000 miles to the Bering Sea.

This was the foundation of the respect I have — call it a relationship if you will— for this magnificent land that I enjoy sharing with others.

If we succeed in providing you with a true Alaskan adventure, don’t be too surprised if when you leave you feel a little heart-ache… or if under the spell of Alaska and the Yukon you make a promise to yourself that you will be back. No longer a ‘cheechako,’ but a ‘sourdough’.
